What if the thing I’m building doesn’t land? And what if it does? The paralysing question that keeps me up at night.As I embark on this journey of building a business of my own, it’s a terrifying thought.<ul><li>What if people don’t resonate with it?</li><li>What if the market rejects it?</li><li>What if I build a community and ultimately let everyone down?</li><li>What if… crickets?</li></ul>After all, we live in the land of the tall poppy. But in today’s world of personal branding, social media, and entrepreneurship, does tall poppy syndrome even matter anymore?Recently, I found myself in a room full of record label execs and industry leaders, pitching my idea. I got nervous.Maybe I wasn’t articulating it properly?Maybe they weren’t my audience?Or maybe… I hadn’t consulted them first?Building something from the ground up is scary.Reflecting on a big week, here are some takeaways:<ol><li>Keep having conversations.The work is never done. It’s clear that I need to move beyond friendly chats and start consulting the wider industry sooner rather than later. Expect an inbox ping soon. </li><li>Fail fast.I keep hearing this advice. After an inspiring conversation recently, I sat down with my co-founder, Helen, and asked a critical question: How do we fail fast without burning through resources?So here we are, focusing on personal branding, short-form content, visibility, and refining from there. And maybe binge-watching Daniel Priestley podcasts isn’t the worst start? </li><li>Be visible in the journey.Start talking to people now. Let it evolve. Learn. Refine. Maybe the insights I need aren’t even within the music industry. But most importantly… </li></ol>Keep going.There will be days when my uncertainty feels greater than someone else’s doubt.
