The purpose of mentoring is to facilitate the personal and professional growth of you as a creative by providing guidance, support, and real-life experience through online or in-person learning sessions and discussions from experienced mentors.
Each mentor booking will require you to fill out a discovery form and schedule a 15 minute introductory call with one of the Mentor Academy team to ensure you are setup for success.
We offer one-off sessions or 5-session bundles - with an individual mentor or across a group of mentors, that we can develop to align with your individual goals.
Mentoring should be driven by specific goals that you have in your chosen category of music or creative interest:
Set short term, medium term and long term goals (e.g., 3, 6, 12 month and beyond)
Have a clear idea of what you are wanting to deliver or do to explain to your mentor (e.g., develop and get feedback on songwriting, optimise your vocal chain for a certain style of music, learn how to design a brand and social media strategy for your client or own needs, get feedback on developing tools and approaches for artist and tour management ideas)
Prepare examples of ideas to prepare and discuss (e.g., previously written songs, audio files of performances or drafts, social media planning boards and handles for engagement tracking, inspiration references to guide growth)
Our Mentors are all currently working in the industry - which is what makes them so relevant as mentors - so once you are accepted and have gone through the initial discovery call - there will be scheduled sessions online based on each Mentor’s limited avilability.
These will be agreed at a per session price or 5-session bundle price and paid up-front.
This means you don’t have to be in the same city (or even country!) to get Industry Expert Mentoring.
While mentors will take varying approaches depending on style, skill and topic, Mentor Academy follows the 5 C’s of Mentoring:
Challenges (Identifying what challenges you will encounter heading towards your outlined goals that may be broken down into milestones)
Choices (e.g., talking critically through the choices you have in approaching each milestone to work towards and what they mean in reality)
Consequences (Openly discussing what opportunity costs exist per choice, and what the consequences of past or current actions are to address)
Creative Solutions (e.g., there are many approaches to different choices and outcomes - mentors can explain what creative solutions look like, introduce you to appropriate help or wider communities and more)
Conclusions (e.g., how to prepare for results, put new skills into practice for longevity and continual personal and professional development)
Get to Know Each Other mentorships are a two way street and like any relationship it will improve over time, with open and honest communication, and finding common ground.
Be Realistic you won’t get everything you’re looking for from session one! If your mentor suggests watching a TedTalk, reading a text or preparing content to discuss or review - be realistic with how long it will take you to do that and prepare feedback so you make effective use of your next session - and don’t turn up without it.

Start by choosing a mentor you feel aligns with your passion. Take beginner lessons, practice regularly, learn to read music or tabs, and set small, achievable goals to stay motivated.
